Agis Health Insurance AWBZ

AGIS Health Insurance deploys Mendix to get its critical procurement application up and running within six weeks by implementing and deploying a two-portal online application for AGIS employees and healthcare providers’ personnel to automate the tendering, delivery, management and monitoring of healthcare services.

Challenge

In 2006, the Dutch government decided to transfer parts of its AWBZ mental healthcare program to the private insurance sector, thus creating a new healthcare system with regulated competition. To comply with the new rules, insurance companies, such as Agis, are obliged to contract healthcare providers for these hard-to-insure treatments and services. In every region, one insurer is granted a concession by the government to deliver in-kind insurance. The insurance company bears only administrative costs associated with this delivery and is completely compensated for healthcare costs.

Requirements

Agis was looking for a fast and cost-effective way to procure AWBZ-related healthcare and to process and manage the resulting information. At the same time, the solution needed to offer healthcare suppliers and customers an improved service, and fully comply with Dutch and EU regulations, including a critical deadline.

Solution

    • Agis implemented and deployed a two-portal online application for Agis employees and healthcare providers’ personnel to automate the tendering, delivery, management and monitoring of healthcare services— with a budget of €2.5 billion—provided under the Dutch Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ)

    • The procurement module was delivered in a record six weeks; the remaining two project phases took between four and eight weeks

Insurance carrier Agis selects Mendix

After an intensive selection and evaluation program Insurance carrier Agis chooses Mendix for the company-wide automation of supporting processes. Mendix delivers a model-driven software platform that is capable of developing business applications in a fraction of the time and cost. Agis will use Mendix software for the realization of flexible and agile applications within the Agis organization.

Agis is one of the largest health Insurance carriers of the Netherlands with approximately 1400 employees and over 1.2 million customers. Due to changing market circumstances en legislation within the insurance market, Agis is forced to alter internal process and reengineer those every time market circumstances change. “These changes have a significant impact upon the IT landscape and are very costly”, says Cor de Koning, head of Processes and Automation within Agis. “The Mendix platform enables us to automate our processes in a way that is flexible and future-proof, which fully complies with our process thinking.”

After an initial Mendix implementation in the health procurement department, Agis decided to buy a license for the unlimited use of Mendix software across the extended enterprise. This allows Agis to rapidly automate and migrate a large number of supporting business processes to Mendix, therewith adhering to an ambitious vision as designed by the Agis team of enterprise architects.

Agis zet Mendix bedrijfsbreed in voor automatisering van ondersteunende processen

Agis Zorgverzekeringen heeft na een intensieve selectie- en evaluatieprocedure besloten om Mendix bedrijfsbreed in te zetten voor ondersteuning van haar processen. Mendix is een model-gedreven applicatie ontwikkelplatform waarmee bedrijfsapplicaties binnen een fractie van de tijd en kosten kunnen worden gerealiseerd. Mendix software zal binnen Agis worden ingezet voor het structureel automatiseren van ondersteunende processen alsmede het migreren van verouderde systemen voor die processen naar een modern, flexibel en toekomstvast platform.

Agis behoort met 1,23 miljoen klanten en ruim 1400 medewerkers tot één van de grootste zorgverzekeraars in Nederland. Door veranderende marktomstandigheden en regelgeving binnen de zorgverzekeringsmarkt, is Agis genoodzaakt haar processen continue aan te passen en te optimaliseren. “Deze herinrichting heeft een significante impact op het ICT landschap en brengt grote kosten met zich mee”, aldus Cor de Koning, hoofd Processen en Automatisering bij Agis. “Het Mendix platform stelt ons in staat om de processen toekomstvast aan te passen in minder tijd en conform onze procesgedachte.”

Na een aantal succesvolle Mendix implementaties heeft Agis besloten een licentie voor onbeperkt gebruik af te nemen, een zogenaamde Enterprise Agreement. Dit stelt Agis in staat in versneld tempo een groot aantal ondersteunende processen te migreren naar Mendix en daarmee aan te laten sluiten bij de procesvisie zoals die door het Agis architectuur team is opgesteld.
