Mendix on May 26, 2016
Mendix World 2016 is just around the corner and will feature a 24-hour, IoT themed hackathon; two days of inspiring keynotes; and breakout sessions, with tracks focused on strategic technology trends, customer success stories, digital transformation, the latest Mendix Platform capabilities and training. The event wouldn’t be complete without an interactive app to guide you through the show floor, keep track of your agenda, and fill you in on all the speakers, keynotes and breakout sessions.
The Mendix World app, developed by Mendix Technical Consultant, Danny Roest, along with the Mendix Community and R&D teams, uses all of the standard functionalities of the Mendix Platform. This article will explain all of the features of the app and how you can use the app to make the most of your Mendix World 2016 experience.
For the best Mendix World experience, turn on Bluetooth to receive push notifications with information and welcome notes. The push notifications will be based on time and location, and with the use of beacons we have the ability to send these notifications to app users indoors. These native push notifications allow you to keep track of what is going on during the event.
You can also click through the agenda for more detailed synopses of breakout sessions and bios of speakers. As you browse the agenda and notice sessions and keynotes that you are interested in attending, the native “add to calendar” feature lets you create an event in your local calendar app to easily keep track of your schedule. After attending the breakout sessions, there is an option to provide feedback right from the app.
You can also share the details of the breakout session or keynote to social media or WhatsApp. The Buzz feature allows you to keep track of the social media conversations using the event hashtag #mendixworld.
When clicking into the “Event Information” option from the menu, you can access information on nearby restaurants, hotels, parking, public transportation and Rotterdam sites to see. When clicking through each location you will have the option to open navigation, leading you right into your local maps app.
Some other features of the app include accessing a virtual goodie bag, detailed sponsor information, and voting for the hackathon winners right from the app.
The Mendix World app has complete offline capabilities, using the entire functionality set of offline mobile. This means that you can browse the complete application even if you if you have no connection to the Internet. These offline capabilities allow for a more native experience as well as greater speed due to all of the data being stored locally at the device level.
While building the Mendix World app, our developers used all of the functionalities of our standard platform, as well as our mobile capabilities for layout and styling. We also created some new custom widgets, including Push Notifications, Add to Calendar, Native Share and Navigate to, some of which will be available in our app store at the end of June.
