Closing in on Mendix World 2012

With only a few weeks until the big event, our Mendix World team has been busy putting the finishing touches on the event and our line-up of impressive expert speakers has been growing. We have great industry thought leaders, customer case studies, and breakout sessions to make sure there is something for everybody in the Mendix community.

Let’s see what’s in store:

Industry Leading Keynotes – It’s an App World

Derek Roos, Mendix CEO, will open the two day event with our event theme “It’s an App World.” I caught Derek in the hallway at our Boston office and he gave me a few pointers – I can’t reveal much, but as usual he is looking ahead of the market like nobody else, plus he’ll give us a sneak peak of what we have in store for the Mendix App Platform. I think this will be another market defining moment…

The same afternoon John Rymer, VP & Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, will take the stage and discuss why it’s the best time ever to be in software delivery. I’m looking forward to hearing John’s thoughts on how software delivery fosters business innovation and competitive advantage in modern enterprises.

We are also excited to have Ron Tolido, CTO at Capgemini, as our keynote speaker on day two. Ron’s presentation “From Train to Scooter” will look at how the cloud, Web 2.0 and the mobile revolution offer direct value to the business. Also Mendix CTO Johan den Haan will discuss “Fueling the App Economy with the App Platform for the Enterprise” – wherein he’ll talk about the emerging “App Economy” and how new platforms like Mendix will impact its growth.

Discover and Learn from Mendix Customers

And of course we’ll hear first and foremost from Mendix customers – we’ll have a lively panel discussion to uncover some of the industry trends that influence businesses today. We also hear directly from industry leading companies and how they stay ahead of the curve using the Mendix App Platform. For example Chris Woodman, Director of Ops & Systems Integration at Liberty Mutual Insurance will discuss the launch of MyLibertyMobile which took just a few weeks and helped create new market opportunities for his company.

We also have break-out sessions to dive deeper into specific topics. The tracks are split into business, tech, and project themes wherein experts from the Mendix development team, as well as Mendix customers and partners will provide a healthy dose of best practices, implementation use cases and technical tips and tricks.

What would a Mendix event be without a few app competitions to keep things interesting? You’ve probably heard about the Mobile App Challenge – submit an application, get two free tickets to Mendix World and if you win – a free deployment subscription for the year. The winner will be voted for by the crowed via a Mendix mobile app.

We invited teams of university students to build a Mendix App during the two-day event. The App Battle is organized by the Mendix Training & Certification Program. Student teams will give it their all to build and deploy the winning Mendix App in only 2 days and the winning team will be crowned at the end of Mendix World 2012.

Partners and Party

In addition to the scheduled sessions you will have the chance to network with your peers and check out the growing Mendix eco system in the Mendix Partner Market – a whole part of Mendix World dedicated to Mendix Partners showing us what they’ve done with the Mendix App Platform. We are excited to welcome Capgemini as the platinum sponsor for the event along with advanced sponsors FICO, Capegroup, Flowfabric, Mansystems and Nobel.

And I would be amiss if I didn’t tell you about the party we have planned for all Mendix World attendees – stay tuned, there will be great food, a chance to talk shop with your new and old Mendix World friends and a couple of DJs you won’t forget. We are looking forward seeing you in Rotterdam on October 4th.
