Impressions from the Mendix Model Experience

on November 4, 2008

Last friday, on the 31st of October, Mendix organized the 1st “Mendix Model Experience” in the World Port Center in Rotterdam. With almost 80 participants from a wide range of backgrounds, the 31st floor of the World Port Center was packed and buzzing with excitement.

We had a great and varied program!

In the morning Dr. Ir. Maarten Steen of the Telematica Institute kicked-off with a keynote speech on the importance, do’s and don’ts of model-driven engineering. After that Mendix founder Derek Roos continued with a presentation on Mendix, model-driven best-practices and technology roadmap. After a well-earned lunch overlooking the wonderful skyline of Rotterdam, we continued with a live demo by Mendix consultants Martijn van Lieshout and Michel Vermeer who build a order-entry portal application from scratch and on the spot. Just like we hoped, this demo triggered a significant amount of discussion and a great deal of reactions from the audience. After a short coffee-break we continued with an exhilarating duo-presentation by Joost Prins of Sanoma Publishers and Willem Hulshof of Magnus about Sanoma´s “Magazine Production Portal”, a very successful project, implemented by Mendix implementation partner Magnus. While Joost elaborated on the business case of the project, Willem evaluated the power of MDD tools, agile development and lessons learned.

The entire audience finished this great day with drinks in Café Rotterdam.
