Release 11.2 – Group Smarter, Select Better, Build Faster

This is an exciting month with important updates all around our platform. The much-requested workflow groups support is now available, making it easier to work with groups of people such teams or departments. Widgets have also received great updates, including the highly asked for multi-page selection feature, and the new Check Box / Radio Selector widget. GenAI resource packs is now General Available! And for building smart apps, you can now leverage MCP servers with the new MCP client module. These updates and more are waiting for you. Read on to learn all about them!

Studio Pro

Workflow Groups

To have more flexibility in targeting a set of users and be able to dynamically adjust this set at runtime, we are introducing Workflow Groups. Targeting groups instead of individual users allows users to be added/removed to/from tasks that are already initiated, and to define a set of users that more resembles your organizational structure as this can be unrelated to permissions (roles).

For example, when a new user is added to the application and added to a group, they will instantly see all the tasks targeted for this group. Same when users are removed from a group. The optional Workflow Commons module has been extended with a page to manage the members of each group.

Workflow Groups is in public beta and needs to be enabled in the New features tab.

Widgets

Now you can select rows across different pages of data without losing your selection when navigating between pages. This makes working with large datasets easier, especially when you need to perform actions on rows spread across multiple pages. You can now build your selection across several pages before executing actions like status updates, categorization changes, or batch processing.

This improvement is just the beginning, with an upcoming “select all” feature planned to allow selection across all pages (a highly anticipated idea on the forum for further simplifying your work with large datasets).

Check Box / Radio Selector: Flexible selection options for any data source

The new Check box / Radio selector widget expands the selection options for your application’s UI, offering a visual alternative to the Combo box. This widget adapts to your needs, automatically displaying as a radio button list for single selection scenarios or as a checkbox list when multiple selections are appropriate. It supports multiple data sources: using the current context entities or their associations, retrieving selectable objects from database, or static values defined directly in the widget.

You can enhance the user experience with custom content for each option, creating more informative and visually appealing selection interfaces. The widget is built with accessibility in mind, featuring proper ARIA labels and keyboard navigation to ensure all users can interact with your selections effectively.

Combo box: Enhanced filter input control

The Combo Box widget now gives you greater control over the filtering experience with a new On change filter input event. This event triggers whenever users type in the Combo Box filter field, passing the current filter text as an action variable to your configured microflow or nanoflow. A configurable debounce setting lets you control exactly when the event fires, preventing unnecessary calls during rapid typing.

This addition opens up powerful new possibilities for your applications: implement dynamic filtering logic based on partial inputs, create custom search experiences, log search patterns to understand user behavior, or validate input as users type. The event provides the exact text being typed, allowing you to respond precisely to user interactions with the filter field.

Native mobile: Updated React Native version

At Mendix, we are committed to ensuring that the technology powering your applications remains modern, secure, and reliable. That is why we’ve updated React Native to version 0.77.3 in this release. This patch resolves a potential issue where apps could stop working after reloading a screen, improving stability and user experience. While this update is not expected to affect existing JavaScript implementations such as widgets or JS Actions, module developers may want to verify compatibility to ensure everything continues to run smoothly.

We’ve also backported this update to Mendix 10.24, so you can benefit from it without needing to upgrade to the latest version. We recommend updating your native mobile apps to 10.24.4 or 11.2.0 as soon as possible to keep them running smoothly.

MacOS command line tools

We’re making it easier than ever to automate and scale Mendix workflows on MacOS. The Mendix Studio Pro command line tools are now available for Mac, bringing the same powerful automation developers rely on to the MacOS version of Studio Pro. This makes it possible to do terminal-based automation for builders, packaging, model checks and more, without needing to use workarounds. Check out the documentation here.

Email connector revamp

To simplify working with the email connector, we’ve cleaned up the module and streamlined the UI significantly. This revamp makes using the module a lot easier, so developers can get to results faster. Download the module from the marketplace here.

Smart and Agentic apps

Mendix Cloud GenAI Resource Packs generally available

Mendix Cloud GenAI Resource Packs have now officially transitioned from limited availability to General Availability! It is now possible to get access to powerful AI Models like Anthropic Claude Sonnet, and Cohere Embed, as well as scalable, secure vector databases, all natively within Mendix Cloud.

This all runs fully managed in Mendix Cloud and works with Mendix Cloud Tokens. This makes it ideal for RAG, semantic search, embeddings, and much more. Contact your CSM for pricing details or learn more in the docs.

MCP Client 1.0.0

With the new MCP Client module, your Mendix app can act as a consumer of external MCP servers, meaning your app can discover and invoke prompts and tools running elsewhere. This makes it easy to plug powerful external logic or AI services into your Mendix apps without creating any custom integrations. With both the MCP Server and the new Client module you can build out your AI landscape in a low code way, connecting agents across apps in an effortless way! If you want to learn more, check out our blog on using the MCP Client module.

Connect any Knowledge Base in the AI Bot Starter App

When building a bot using the AI Bot Starter App, you can now draw insights from multiple knowledge bases simultaneously, delivering smarter and more comprehensive answers than ever before. It integrates seamlessly with Mendix Cloud GenAI Resources, Azure AI Search, Amazon Bedrock or bring your own knowledge base using PgVector.

With the administrator role you can set up bot configurations with different settings and knowledge bases for different use cases, all at runtime. And if you are truly experimental, you can even combine different providers in the same chat. Every model provider can be used with every knowledge base, making it truly vendor-agnostic.

Governance

Pipelines is now available for Mendix on Kubernetes and Azure

  • Mendix Pipelines now supports automated build, test and deployment to Mendix on Kubernetes and Mendix on Azure offerings, boosting developer productivity.
  • You can flexibly design your own pipelines directly in the Mendix Portal, with quality gates via Maia – helping improve app quality without deep DevOps knowledge.

See the blog for more details and documentation for specific pipeline steps.

User Classification module

The new User Classification module helps Mendix applications accurately distinguish between internal and external users. This ensures compliance with the Mendix Pricing Plan by preventing misclassification that could affect licensing. Classification can be based on user roles or custom microflows, offering flexibility for different app setups. New users are automatically classified, while existing users can be updated via a one-time admin action. With this feature, organizations gain better control over user metering and licensing accuracy. Start classifying your users today!
