Mendix Named a Leader in Gartner’s 2017 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise High Productivity Application Platform as a Service

Platform provides enterprises with high productivity capabilities without forfeiting high control

BOSTON – May 1, 2017 – Mendix, the fastest and easiest platform for creating and continuously improving mobile and web applications, announced it was named a Leader in the Gartner “2017 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise High Productivity Application Platform as a Service” (April 2017). Mendix has been placed the furthest for completeness of vision.

The new hpaPaaS Magic Quadrant marks the first time Gartner has evaluated high-productivity platforms separately from high-control platforms, marking the emergence of a new category that brings significant speed, cost and technology benefits over traditional application development approaches. According to the report, “These hpaPaaS solutions enable the enterprise to utilize a full range of developer assets — citizen developers, departmental developers and enterprise IT professionals — and develop applications ranging from tactical to strategic and stand-alone to integrated. Such applications will typically be data-oriented, although wider enterprise features such as IoT and event-driven support are becoming more common.”

“We believe the creation of a standalone hpaPaaS Magic Quadrant recognizes the ability of high-productivity platforms to significantly shorten time to value for enterprises,” said Johan den Haan, CTO at Mendix. “It’s great to see recognition of our category and an honor to be recognized as a Leader by Gartner. We believe our placement echoes the feedback we hear from customers about our platform’s ease of use, cloud-native architecture, vibrant ecosystem, and unparalleled time to results.”

Mendix Enables High Productivity without Forfeiting High Control

Combining full-stack visual development capabilities, a cloud-native architecture and an integrated set of tools for the complete application lifecycle, Mendix is uniquely suited for high-productivity development within an enterprise context.

The platform shields citizen developers from unnecessary complexity while offering IT teams the full transparency, openness and control that they require. Testing and quality management are integrated into the development lifecycle to ensure app quality and robustness, while supporting continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).

Apps can be deployed on the Mendix public cloud, a wide range of cloud platforms—such as AWS, IBM Bluemix, Microsoft Azure, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, and SAP Cloud —or on-premises. Leveraging a modern stateless server architecture, Mendix Cloud provides on-demand scalability and out-of-the-box high availability (“HA”). Power users and citizen developers don’t need to worry about any of this —to them the back-end is “opaque”— but the IT team has the transparency and control over the server run-time required to operate with enterprise robustness, at Web-Scale.
