Mendix Application Platform Helps Drive Leading Entertainment Production Company’s Rapid Growth

BOSTON – June 30, 2015Mendix, a leading application Platform-as-a-Service (aPaaS) provider, today announced that its client, Solomon Group, is using a custom application created via the Mendix Application Platform to manage logistics for its production of the upcoming ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans.

solomon-group-case-studyNamed the No. 10 Top Media Company among America’s fastest-growing private companies on the prestigious Inc. 5,000 List, Solomon Group provides end-to-end creative and technology solutions for projects ranging from major national events to theme park-like attractions and museum environments. The entertainment design and production company’s work has been on display all over the country. Headquartered in New Orleans, Solomon Group has produced back-to-back, record-breaking ESSENCE Festivals in its home city for the past two years. The company is gearing up for the 2015 ESSENCE Festival, scheduled for July 2-5 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and surrounding venues.

Using the Mendix Application Platform, Solomon Group quickly created an application to consolidate all management tasks for the event – everything from booking hotel rooms, to managing the construction of scenery in its fabrication shop. The company has made the app accessible to external vendors, allowing artists’ management representatives to easily share and access information regarding dressing room assignments, credentials, parking passes, bus availability and insurance certificates

“We needed an application that catered specifically to our business, and we needed it quickly,” said Jonathan Foucheaux, a Solomon Group partner and co-founder. “Using Mendix, two non-coders were able to create a solution in just a few weeks. The Mendix platform was easy to use, and it allowed us to collaborate as a team, putting in just what we need to make the whole operation run smoothly.”

A Platform to Support Solomon Group’s Rapid Growth

The ESSENCE Festival application is the second that Solomon Group created using the Mendix Application Platform. The first was a general management application that consolidated a wide variety of corporate functions including ordering, scheduling and data management. Foucheaux says that, prior to the creation of this application, employees had become so frustrated with the hodgepodge of spreadsheets, paper files and inflexible applications built with Intuit QuickBase that they stopped cataloging information. This often left databases incomplete and forced project leaders to waste hours searching for information.

“Our rapid growth has brought some challenges, and we really needed something to help us manage our processes,” said Foucheaux. “With Mendix, we have a platform that is delivering significant business value today—and will support Solomon Group’s growth well into the future.”
