Mendix Named a Leader Among Low-Code Development Platforms by Independent Research Firm

Analysts recognize Mendix for its extensive use of declarative tooling, generous free-access program and Cloud Foundry platform base

BOSTON – April 15, 2016Mendix, a leading application Platform-as-a-Service (aPaaS) provider, today announced that Forrester Research has ranked the company as a Leader in the newly released report “The Forrester Wave™: Low-Code Development Platforms, Q2 2016.” The Mendix platform is the fastest way to turn ideas into applications, helping hundreds of leading enterprises around the world accelerate their journey to digital business.

Mendix was named a Leader based on Forrester’s assessment of the current offering, strategy and market presence of 14 vendors. The report cites three key factors that differentiate low-code platforms: the breadth of tooling provided, built-in support for modern development processes and the availability of free initial access to the platform for experimentation and learning. In the evaluation, Mendix tied for the highest scores in the strategy assessment, self-service enablement, pricing strategy and largest number of concurrent users criteria.

According to the report, “Mendix is notable as the only vendor in this set to base its product on the Cloud Foundry platform, giving it intriguing opportunities to partner with large distributors of that technology to drive enterprise adoption. The Mendix platform’s greatest strengths are its incorporation of Agile and continuous delivery methods and its ability to support database and process applications, mobile and web user experiences, integration, and collaboration. It makes extensive use of declarative tooling to create and deliver applications.”

“We believe our recognition as a Leader in the Low-Code Development Platform space is great confirmation of Mendix’s mission. Low-code development platforms weren’t on the industry’s radar a few years ago and now the need within enterprises is overwhelmingly clear,” said Derek Roos, Mendix CEO and co-founder. “Mendix has established itself as the de facto standard for rapid app delivery, with the openness and enterprise-class capabilities required to ensure unrivalled portability, interoperability and scalability.”

The Need for Digital Speed is Driving Low-Code Development Platform Adoption

Forrester defines low-code development platforms as “platforms that enable rapid delivery of business applications with a minimum of hand-coding and minimal upfront investment in setup, training, and deployment.” Outlining the market conditions driving adoption of low-code development platforms, the report states, “Speed is crucial in introducing new disruptive products, engaging and responding to customers across different channels, and adapting existing services based on shifting competitive drivers. This relentless focus on ‘digital speed’ is forcing AD&D leaders to reach for new approaches and platforms that enable delivery of new apps in days and weeks, instead of months.”
