A Vision that Delivers: Mendix Named a Gartner® Leader Again!

Think of today’s software development landscape like a long race. In our opinion, you’re either out ahead, following, or falling behind. The ones most likely to succeed are the ones who know both where the road is headed and how to build the best vehicle for the day.

In the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms, Mendix is again named a Leader, the ninth consecutive year we’ve been recognized. What’s more, we’re positioned furthest on the Completeness of Vision axis.

We know what we think when we’re talking vision, but let’s walk through it for our customers, partners, and users.

Innovation rooted in experience

Mendix has looked to increase efficiency across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for more than twenty years. The outcome is better, mission-critical software created faster.

Our customers adopt Mendix to build software that fit their biggest needs, and trust our platform to build portfolios of hundreds of solutions. Our long-term focus is to continue to innovate and help them do that. From a focus on governance and security (see our recent FedRAMP certification) to unparalleled deployment flexibility, everything we do is geared toward improving the software experience for developers and users.

That means helping customers modernize legacy systems, automate line-of-business operations, and respond faster to change (hello, AI-driven hyperautomation!). Today, we’re seeing that 80% of business-critical applications involve workflows pertaining to BOAT (Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies).

Unlike no-code tools focusing only on speed and smaller pieces of the puzzle, Mendix delivers better software, built fast, with the professional capabilities enterprises demand: governance, security, deployment flexibility, and on and on. Cutting corners is simply not an option for most enterprises, and we embrace that.

That commitment filters through to how we plan everything, including AI.

Built-in not bolted-on: Our AI-always approach

Go back a few years: was AI at the top of your IT strategy? Probably not. But the shift happened (whether everyone was ready or not), and now generative AI and AI agents are critical. Anyone thinking of them as nice to have is giving away competitive advantage.

The market responded with a flood of agentic AI tools promising instant results. And a lot of those tools are fun and produce interesting things. But here’s the truth: building an MVP using AI agents is a great start. But it’s just the start.

Despite the breakneck pace, enterprise development is a marathon, not a sprint. Simply producing that MVP in isolation is not enough. Going down this path requires asking some hard questions:

  • What large language models fueled the agent that produced the MVP?
  • Are they consistent with your enterprise’s governance and compliance needs?
  • How does that output connect to the rest of your SDLC?
  • What’s your long-term roadmap for scaling and innovation?

That’s why we’re taking the long view and an integrated approach. To us, AI is more than a feature or an add-on. It’s baked into your application logic, UI, and deployment strategy.

From embedding ML models in the same containers as your applications, using Maia to make developers’ lives easier, or using agents to accelerate development, our vision is AI-always.

The recent Siemens acquisition of Altair creates a powerful new launchpad for Mendix. We’re bringing together our industry-leading low-code platform with Altair’s cutting-edge RapidMiner AI and data analytics, unlocking a whole new level of value for Mendix users. Think unified data, AI ops, agent orchestration, and more. All in one seamless experience.

Big things are coming. Watch this space!

The platform that unlocks possibilities

To take this one step further, we see Mendix as the platform to build all your mission-critical applications, but we don’t believe in walled gardens.

Our long-term strategy includes partnerships with organizations like Snowflake and AWS. We understand that Microsoft’s Power Platform is likely already part of your ecosystem.

Mendix acts as the glue bringing your data, tools, and teams together to create innovative, smart, scalable solutions across your entire ecosystem.

Paving the road ahead

When discussing our vision for Mendix, we don’t believe this is only because of our Magic Quadrant™ placement. We’re talking about our long-term commitment to our customers’ success.

That means:

  • Delivering the most stable and sustainable development platform
  • Supporting easier migrations and flexible deployments
  • Innovating and investing in AI (and the next big things that are to come)
  • Providing an integrated, end-to-end approach to enterprise software development

In our opinion, a ninth consecutive year of being named a Gartner Leader is an honor. But we feel that it’s not our destination so much as a sign that we’re on the right path and the fuel to keep driving forward. We’re committed to pushing further, evolving faster, and helping our customers build best-in-class software.

Ready to build what’s next? Let’s create something great together.
