Independent Benchmark Study: Mendix Delivers 6 Times Higher App Development Productivity

Reduced development effort, smaller teams and shorter project durations lead to dramatic productivity increases for building business applications

BOSTON – November 5, 2014Mendix, the enterprise app platform as a service (aPaaS) company, today announced that an independent benchmark study concluded that Mendix projects require only one-sixth of the development hours compared to the industry average for business application projects. The study, conducted by QSM, an independent authority in quantitative software management, validates that complex business applications built on the Mendix platform can be delivered in a significantly shorter timeframe, at lower costs and with smaller teams, compared to traditional application development approaches.

6x-Faster-with-MendixThe QSM study analyzes specific projects built using the Mendix App Platform and Mendix’s signature visual, model-driven development approach, and compares the results to data derived from the QSM industry benchmark database of 12,000 business application projects. The study found that the Mendix App Platform outperforms projects built in a traditional environment significantly, delivering on average six times higher productivity than the industry benchmark.

Mendix’s productivity advantage is the result of the following factors:

  • Mendix project teams are 60 percent smaller
  • Project duration is 50 percent shorter
  • Development effort is reduced by 70 percent

“It is great to see an independent authority confirm what we hear from our customers every day – Mendix enables business users and developers to build business apps much faster, using smaller teams that can collaborate much more effectively across business and IT,” said Gottfried Sehringer, vice president of marketing for Mendix.

The seven projects were conducted for companies in a variety of industries, including financial services, consumer products, government, logistics and business services, both in the North America and in Europe.
