Mendix on Azure Goes GA: Secure, Proven, Scalable
Key takeaways
- Mendix on Azure is now generally available, delivering faster setup, lower TCO, and native Azure integration for enterprise teams.
- New GA capabilities include direct database access, app-level backup/restore, and fully network-isolated hosting for stricter governance needs.
- The GA release builds the foundation for deeper future integration with Azure services like Azure OpenAI, Graph API, Power BI, and Entra ID.
Just six months after introducing Mendix on Azure in Limited Availability, we’re proud to announce that the platform is now generally available (GA).
From the start, our goal has been to make it easier and cheaper for enterprises to build and run Mendix applications natively within their Azure environment, with all the governance, security, and scalability they expect from Microsoft’s cloud.
What we learned from early adopters
During the Limited Availability period, enterprise customers tested Mendix on Azure in production-like environments across industries ranging from financial services to manufacturing. Their feedback was invaluable.
What they loved:
- Faster time to value — setting up Mendix on Azure required minimal coordination with central IT teams, accelerating deployment and reducing internal dependencies.
- Lower total cost of ownership — simplified setup, automated provisioning, and native Azure resource management led to significant efficiency gains.
- Native connectivity within the Azure ecosystem — customers leveraged their existing Azure infrastructure, from networking and identity to monitoring and compliance frameworks.
What they asked for:
Enterprise architects wanted more flexibility and governance controls to align with their internal standards. We listened and acted.
What’s new in GA
1. Direct database access
Many customers use Mendix as the experience and integration layer on top of a data lake or central data platform. To support advanced data architectures, direct database access is now enabled in the GA release. This gives architects more control over data flows and allows for more efficient integration patterns.
2. App-level backup and restore
To meet enterprise governance requirements, each Mendix application environment now has its own restore and backup mechanism. This new feature strengthens compliance and reduces recovery times for mission-critical apps.
3. Fully network-isolated application hosting
Customers asked for more control and security within their own networks. With GA, Mendix apps can now be hosted isolated within a customer’s Azure network, ensuring compliance and resilience even in environments with strict egress restrictions.
Fully enterprise-ready
With these enhancements, Mendix on Azure is now fully enterprise-ready: combining the power of enterprise software development with the scalability, security, and governance of Microsoft’s cloud.
“Mendix on Azure helped us move from pilot to production faster than ever before. Our teams now deploy applications within our existing Azure network without additional DevOps overhead.”

What’s next
This GA release marks more than just technical readiness; it’s the foundation for a deeper integration between Mendix and the Microsoft ecosystem. In the coming months, we’ll continue to strengthen capabilities to seamlessly connect to Azure services like Azure OpenAI, Graph Api, Power BI, and Entra ID, empowering enterprises to deliver intelligent, composable enterprise software faster than ever.
