Low-Code Stats All Business Leaders & Developers Need to Know

Low-code has been a sensational development for business leaders and developers alike and it is a game-changer for all types of organizations. The reason that people are enthusiastic about low-code is how it enables new audiences—people who might not traditionally be considered IT leaders—to turn their ideas into applications.

Mendix recently conducted a survey of 2,000 IT professionals across six countries to understand what people are excited about when it comes to low-code. Read on to learn more about new low-code statistics and new trends in low-code application development:

1. Low-code hits the mainstream

First on our list of low-code platform trends is the popularity of low-code itself. Low-code has finally hit the mainstream. You can see features on low-code written up in publications like Forbes and ZDnet. And, according to our survey, low-code is now in use in 77% of organizations.

Not only that, low-code is swiftly integrating as part of people’s daily workflow. According to the survey, 64% of IT professionals agree that low-code is their go-to work-around development solution. Low-code platforms offer a visual approach to application development, enabling a spectrum of developers of varied experience to create applications for web and mobile using drag-and-drop components and model-driven logic through a graphic user interface.

2. Low-code empowers diverse groups to work with IT

IT professionals know that low-code is bringing welcome diversity into the field. According to our survey, 48% see that low-code empowers people without a college education to work in IT. And 40% of IT leaders say their IT department will become more diverse because of low-code, with a greater range of ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds represented.

Low-code model-driven development is a language that business developers can understand and communicate. With such a short learning period, the business can quickly collaborate with IT and traditional developers and build applications much more quickly. It is clear from these stats that low-code application development enables non-technical business people to easily turn their ideas into applications, as well as it enables traditional software developers to utilize their skills to provide a better development experience for others involved in the application lifecycle by developing reusable code extensions.

3. Collaboration is where low-code shines.

As many as 59% of projects using low-code are a collaboration between IT and business teams. And 25% of survey participants say there are fewer instances of shadow IT than before due to the benefits of low-code. IT professionals using low-code have quickly become aware of major benefits to its use. A surveyed 2 out of 5 low-code users reported more collaboration, faster development, and lower costs. Plus, low-code projects reduce costs by 53% and are 56% faster.
