Leading the Charge in the Agentic AI Era

The low-code landscape is undergoing a revolutionary transformation, primarily driven by the breakthrough of Generative AI (GenAI). This shift has sparked a race among vendors, with many questioning if GenAI’s code generation capabilities might render low-code platforms obsolete. However, we at Mendix, a consistent leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms, firmly believe that low-code is not only here to stay but will thrive by embracing GenAI.

Our core philosophy has always centered on abstraction and automation, making complex technology accessible. This approach delivers significant benefits: up to 6 to 10 times higher productivity, driven in large part by enhanced collaboration between business and IT. These advantages extend far beyond mere developer productivity, offering substantial returns on investment by supporting the entire application lifecycle under governance, a breadth that GenAI alone cannot fully replicate.

Our strategy for GenAI is clear and two-fold: creating an agentic platform and enabling our customers to develop agentic applications.

The Agentic Platform: AI Across the SDLC

We are embedding GenAI throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) to deliver true productivity. Our in-platform AI service, Maia, is designed to orchestrate specialized agents that respond to natural language prompts, creating application artifacts under human supervision. This approach is:

  • Every stage: We infuse AI across the entire SDLC.
  • Natural: We see AI as an intuitive companion for developers and users, keeping humans in the loop.
  • Integrated: Maia is fully embedded within the Mendix platform and Studio Pro IDE, leveraging our existing visual modeling, DevOps, governance, and security foundations.

Agentic Applications: Intelligent Solutions for the Enterprise

With Mendix 11, we make it easier than ever to build intelligent, agentic applications. This includes turnkey access to large language models and knowledge bases via GenAI resource packs, an Agents Kit for specialized agent development, and out-of-the-box agent templates.

A critical challenge for enterprises, however, is ensuring their data is truly AI-ready. This is where the recent acquisition of RapidMiner by Siemens (our parent company) becomes a game-changer. By combining RapidMiner’s data fabric, ETL tools, and AI model development capabilities with Mendix, we now offer full-stack development that extends beyond applications to include data and analytics. This integration leads the next wave of agentic applications, expanding the SDLC from DevOps to encompass DataOps and ModelOps.

Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant report1 validates our vision, predicting that by 2028, agentic AI will be implemented through enterprise low-code platforms in four out of five businesses worldwide. Our consistent recognition as a Leader, particularly for our vision, underscores our alignment with these market trends and our commitment to empowering enterprises to build an agentic future.

With Mendix 11, we have prioritized three key investment areas: Generative AI for an agentic enterprise, business orchestration for streamlined workflows, and enterprise-grade applications for trusted governance and deployment. Mendix is not just adapting to the GenAI era; we are actively shaping it, ensuring that ideas become outcomes in an increasingly intelligent world.
